As stated by Netball Victoria in 2008, no club or team is to be affiliated with any Victorian Netball League Franchise. Since then, all teams and clubs that were initially linked with a franchise, have had to form a new committee and club for teams below VNL. At metro, this was not an issue as our player pathway and development had already been established with close ties to all local VNL Franchises.
Hence, all now is in place for the total duration of a player's future at metro. With clear directions at junior level and a strong Fast-Tracking scheme, players can progress to VNL with the systems in place at Premier league level to be able to move on to a VNL place. In the event, that a player does not get a place on a VNL list, they are then played in metro's Division 1 team to once again prepare them for future trials. The next step at metro is to continue to grow our juniors, where currently we have Net Set Go, 11 & Under, 13 & Under, 15 & Under and 17 & Under teams.
Players do not have to be playing in metro's division 1 team to be able to trial for VNL. Players from lower teams and from our 17 & Under teams and 15 & Under teams will be able to be progressed as well.
The process for trials at VNL via the metro plan is as follows:
1. Individual players from Open, 17 & Under and 15 & Under teams are asked to prepare for VNL trialling by August.
2. Information such as dates and venues are sent to all players.
3. Coaches and representatives from local VNL clubs are invited to watch trialling players in their respective current teams.
In combination with our fast-track program, we have been delighted with the development of all of our junior players. Next season, we will have some of these players progress to higher open teams and a new band of players will be asked to be part of the new development squad.
Metro Revellers are also an affiliated netball club with the Parkville Netball association, which means that players from the metro Revellers Netball club have the opportunity of trying out for the Parkville 11 & Under, 13 & Under, 15 & Under and 17 & Under representative teams that play in the Association Championships. In the last 4 years, many metro players have represented the Parkville Netball Association Representative Teams. This also then opens the opportunity for players to be identified in the Netball Victoria Talent Identification Program (TID), which enables players to then qualify to be part of the Central West Zone Academy, which is run by Marg Lind from Netball Victoria.
The metro Revellers have also been delighted to be part of a number of practice matches sessions with the Central West Zone Academy players since 2008. Throughout the year, once Zone Academy squads have been finalised, up to 30 players play three matches against the Zone Academy players. We once again, look forward to a higher involvement with Central West Zone Academy and also with the Northern Zone Academy.
We look forward to some exciting years ahead as players embark on VNL places, with hopefully further progression to State Representation.
